YMII (formerly known as YMI) presents a name change at The Tote Upstairs under the title “YMII & The YMIs”. While YMII’s sets are often described as whimsical and heartfelt, she is known for incorporating elements of rage, which will surface in the form of a furious cover of one of YMII’s favourite songs. With that said, she is a passionate songwriter, and as such the majority of her sets are stacked with catchy originals - the most contagious of all being “Seventeen”, which is scheduled for release in the middle of April. Emerging from the depths of student radio and a lifelong interest in storytelling, YMII’s work is propelled by vivid lyricism and dark, brooding undertones with a soaring lightness. She leans into the textures of Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, and Kate Bush. Even though YMII’s songs have made bassist, Nick, cry on several occasions, her sets are fun as hell. With supporters Salvador Peralta and The Heartstrings, this lineup promises quality songwriting and impressive musicianship from the heart(strings) of Monash Music School.
