The Mavis's
Australian alt-pop icons The Mavis’s
return in 2026 with their brand-new
single “Heaven”, released Tuesday
24 February, distributed worldwide
by Xelon Digital. Bursting with the
band’s unmistakable melodic flair
and emotional punch, “Heaven”
delivers bittersweet lyrics with an
enormously danceable sound,
marking an exciting new creative
chapter for one of Australia’s most
beloved and enduring bands.
“Make the sun shine brighter like
it used to / All the days and the
nights were young / Making magic
like we were in Heaven”

Brother and sister duo Matt and
Beki have that rare and special
connection that musical siblings
sometimes have, working together
and communicating in their own
language, often finishing each
other’s sentences.
Matt said, “One of my earliest
musical memories is as a baby,
my parents and I traveling in an
old Volkswagen bug, listening to
The Carpenters on the radio. I later
understood that this was music by
a brother/sister act and I thought, if
they can do it, maybe we can, too! I
swear, I can still smell the upholstery
in that old car, traveling with my 18
year old mum and 20 year old dad.”
“Right! And remember them calling
us into the lounge room to watch
the B-52s? Music was a real thing
in our home as kids.
I’m so excited
for people to get to hear “Heaven”
so they can get to know it and sing
and dance along at our shows,” said
Beki.
To help bring “Heaven” to life, The
Mavis’s teamed up with acclaimed
producer Mark Opitz, whose
passion for authentic, powerful rock
recording helped shape the song’s
energy and spirit.
“For me, it always comes back
to the music and the artists. This
collaboration has real electricity
about it, and “Heaven” carries
that spark. We’ve made something
honest, loud in spirit, and built to
connect. In the end, it’s all about the
song — and this one hits.”— Mark
Opitz (AC/DC, The Angels, Cold
Chisel, Divinyls, INXS, KISS)
Formed in 1987 as teenagers, The
Mavis’s began as a four-piece post-
punk rock band. Named after a cat
spotted while jamming in a friend’s
basement, The Mavis’s quickly built
a reputation for creativity, heartfelt
songwriting, and unforgettable live
shows. Their first gig was in a church
hall with just four songs — the start
of a journey that would cement their
status - first as cult favourites and
then widely recognised as Australian
music treasures.
Rising to national prominence in the
late ‘90s, The Mavis’s earned critical
acclaim and multiple ARIA Award
nominations, including Single of the
Year and Song of the Year for their
1998 hit “Cry.”
“The Mavis’s are to Australia what
A-ha are to Norway: masters of
perfectly crafted pop, renowned for
their exuberant live shows and their
trademark mix of sparkle, sass,
and sequins. Few bands radiate
such joy.”— Jane Gazzo, Music
