Solar/Sonar presents a night of Tasmanian music. The Nation Blue have bludgeoned ears for almost 30 years with a relentless sound originating from the bleak dissonance of 1990’s Tasmania. This sound is maybe best captured by the 2004 album Damnation which is being released on vinyl for the very first time to celebrate its 21st birthday. In 30 years The Nation Blue have performed with everyone from Saul Williams to Flipper to Foo Fighters and bring their intense live show to The Tote for one night only.

They are joined by friends who influenced every fibre of their sound upon inception. Linda J appears on two songs on Damnation and is supporting The Nation Blue with her band The Dacios that also features her brothers Bean and Pops. The Dacios are visceral and rocking, a heightened showcase for the sheer power of Linda J’s voice that you’ve no doubt heard in their other band Little Ugly Girls.

Opening the night is The Misanthropes that features Tim Evans and Monika Fikerle from legendary groups like Sea Scouts, Mouth, Love of Diagrams, Bird Blobs and Degreaser. The Misanthropes, like all three bands on the line-up, represents three decades of playing music together from island to mainland and are the most concise distillation of Tasmanian musical practice wrapped in hooks.
